Survey: Prairieville second-best booming suburb in nation

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

Frank Dedman Jr. owns the popular Frank's Restaurant in Prairieville. Not only has he seen his business flourish - he's seen the community around him grow too.

"It's got a down home still country feel. Yet, your right next door to a very huge city Baton Rouge," said Dedman.

A survey from ColdWell Banker ranks Prairieville second in its list of top booming suburbs in America. According to the survey, the community has seen a 60 percent growth in population since 2000. Nearly 27,000 people call Prairieville home.

Dedman is one of those newer residents he says when he saw businesses like Wal-Mart moving in. He took a chance and expanded his restaurant to the area too.

"We've become the local place here. People like to come here, because their money stays here," said Dedman.

.Josh Barnett has seen Foxy's Fitness expand with the population. Management knew people were moving south out of Baton Rouge, so they moved right along with them.

"Yeah man, it use to be kind of the end of Baton Rouge was Highland Road. And then you had this large expansive, open, undeveloped area. I guess over the past five or six years you go down now, there is no gap between the beginning of Prairieville and the end of Baton Rouge. It's kind of all filling in overtime," said Barnett.

Between the great people and even better food Dedman knows why people are flocking to Prairieville.

"It's because of the down-home Prairieville Ascension flavor."
