College grads notice misspelling of state name on diplomas

RADFORD, Va. (AP) -

Spelling counts -- especially on a college diploma.

Hundreds of Radford University grads have gotten sheepskins with a typo in Virginia.

The school says more than 1,400 graduates received diplomas with the goof.

They're graduate and undergrad students who were part of the classes of 2012 and 2013.

University spokesman Joe Carpenter says after software was upgraded last year, an employee made a typo in the word "Virginia," with the third "I'' missing.

The school says corrected diplomas will be sent to the grads as soon as possible.
