HOUMA, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a man was killed early Sunday morning and his younger brother now faces murder charges in the deadly shooting.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office said Ricky Loring, 57, of Houma, was shot to death by his brother, William, 52, also of Houma.
Deputies said it happened at William Loring's home on West Park Avenue around 1:15 a.m.
According to reports, William told investigators he and his older brother had smoked crack together around 7 p.m. William added his brother had later gotten angry when he refused to go buy more drugs for them.
TPSO said William stated his brother showed up at his home early the next morning banging on the door and wanting to fight with him. Detectives said William stated when he tried to open the door, Ricky rushed in and that's when he shot him.
Sheriff's deputies said after the shooting, William Loring left the scene and went to a relative's house. They added he told family members what happened and then went back home before calling authorities to report the shooting.
During questioning at the sheriff's office, investigators said William admitted shooting his brother with a handgun. According to reports, he stated he felt like Ricky was going to hurt him.
William Loring was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail on a charge of second-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond.
Detectives said a gun believed to be the murder weapon was found at the house.
Deputies added both brothers have been arrested in the past on drug charges.
