Suspect in deadly hit and run turns herself in

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The suspect in a deadly hit and run Thursday night has turned herself in to authorities.

Latisha Gant, 39, surrendered to Baton Rouge Police Friday and was charged with felony hit and run in the case.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said the victim, a 52-year-old man, is believed to be homeless. His name has not been released.

Officers said the crash happened on Greenwell Street near Quida Mae Drive, which is just south of the old Earl K. Long Medical Center, around 9:35 p.m.

Investigators said it appears the victim was trying to walk across Greenwell when he was hit by a white SUV. They added the SUV continued west to Airline Highway and turned north.

BRPD reported EMS took the man to Baton Rouge General Mid-City, where he died.

Detectives said they have not been able to find the victim's family members to notify them of his death. Until relatives are informed of his passing, his name will not be released.
