BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said a fire that started because a pot was left unattended damaged seven units of an apartment complex Sunday evening.
It happened at the Evangeline Place apartments in the 4700 block Annette Street in Baton Rouge just before 7 p.m.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported the fire began in apartment No. 6, with the flames basically gutting the kitchen and living room. The blaze also caused heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the unit.
The kitchen wall in apartment No. 7 was damaged by the fire and other units had mild to moderate smoke damage.
American Red Cross volunteers said they are helping 14 people, including two children. They are providing temporary housing, food, clothing and other needs.
