BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge's gay and lesbian community came together today for the city's annual Pride Fest.
About four thousand people were expected to attend the event. Mayor Kip Holden proclaimed June 15 as Baton Rouge Pride Fest and Gay Pride Day.
The free festival featured the New Orleans gay men's chorus along with a resource fair with local non-profits and the annual blessing of relationships. Festivities wrapped up with an equality march to the Louisiana State Capitol.
Organizers of the festival said it is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to get together and share a common bond.
"This is probably one of the largest GLBT gatherings in Baton Rouge all year, so we're really happy that people get to come out and celebrate being who they are," Baton Rouge Pride Fest Chairman Tom Merrill said.
