Group seeks to improve riverfront

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Some extra money coming back to the city could soon help brighten up parts of the Baton Rouge riverfront.

The Downtown Development District asked  the metro council to approve what they've proposed, including a city hall plaza, extended bike paths along the levee, and overall levee improvements.

The list is all part of Mayor Kip Holden's $4.2 million budget supplement that was approved by the metro council Wednesday.

City leaders say a boost in the tourism made the surplus of cash possible.

Officials say the improvements would be paid for by the hotel-motel tax that's refunded back to the city-parish.

The plan would also add a canopy that would shade part of the city dock and illuminating the dock with LED lights.
