GEISMAR, LA (WAFB) - Investigators have made two more arrests and identified a sixth suspect in connection with a shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead Wednesday night.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said Jyrah Bringier and Shedrick Norra were arrested in the shooting death of Bernard Solomon in Geismar. Bringier and Norra are charged with first-degree murder. Their bond information was not provided. Deputies added an arrest warrant has been issued for Dehavius Raby, 36, of Baton Rouge. He is still on the loose. His suspected involvement was not explained.
Detectives reported Bringier, Norra, Marcus Sterling, Richard Gauthier Jr. and Solomon drove from Donaldsonville to Geismar to buy prescription cough medicine with codeine from Ledell Maxwell, 38. Investigators believe Solomon pulled a handgun on Maxwell during the sale and Maxwell then drew a handgun of his own and fired at Solomon.
The shooting happened at the intersection of Ellem Road and Stevenson Road off LA 73 around 8 p.m. Deputies said Solomon was found lying in the intersection with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Maxwell, 38, turned himself in to authorities Thursday night. He was booked on a charge of first-degree murder and his bond was set at $1 million. Sterling, 27, and Gauthier, 18, were arrested Thursday evening. They were also charged with first-degree murder. Their bonds were set at $250,000.
