PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - There's an effort underway to recall Port Allen Mayor Deedy Slaughter out of office.
A group of citizens filed the petition Friday with the Secretary of State's office.
"Week after week after week since she took office in January, it's been one scandal after another - she's raised her own salary, she's fired people illegally, she won't let people do their jobs, she hasn't presented a budget, it's just one thing after another," said John Michael Lockhart, who is petitioning for the recall.
They now need about 1,270 signatures of voters to put the recall election on a ballot later this fall.
Slaughter has faced a string of controversies since she took office at the beginning of the year.
