Renovations to airport should be completed soon

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities at the Baton Rouge Metro Airport say major renovations should be completed by the end of the year and should transform the airport.

Plans call for a new, larger security checkpoint in a different location than the current one.

"Its customer convenience- that's the main issue," said Anthony Marino, Director of the airport.

"That's the main issue, from the parking garage to the bridge from those parking garages to the beautification of the water wall outside."

Airport director Anthony Marino says they are funding the projects through grants and self generated revenue.

Marino says the restaurant and gift shops will be revamped in an effort to better serve the airport customers.

"We see leakage of consumers going to New Orleans and low cost carriers, and rightfully so, I don't blame the consumer," Marino said. "That's a hard hole to plug, but there are other things you can do."
