Debt recovery department gets approval, heads to Gov. Jindal for signature

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A bill that would establish a centralized debt recovery department in Louisiana has passed through the Legislature and is now heading to Governor Jindal.

The measure authored by Rep. Chris Broadwater of Hammond left the conference committee today with approval and is now awaiting Jindal's signature.

According to Broadwater, the department will work in conjunction with the Attorney General's Office and the Department of Revenue. He says it will streamline collections for the hundreds of state agencies and bring in more than $300 million for the state over the next five years.
