GEISMAR, LA (WAFB) - The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that happened Wednesday night and are searching for at least three suspects who may be involved.
It happened at the intersection of Ellem Road and Stevenson Road off Highway 73 in Geismar shortly after 8 p.m. Deputies say 20-year-old Bernard Solomon was found lying in the intersection with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses say they saw a mid-sized silver colored car, believed to be a Nissan Altima, and another mid-sized car that was either dark red or maroon at the intersection at the time of the shooting. Witnesses say both vehicles took off immediately after the shooting.
A surveillance camera captured images of the suspect vehicles fleeing the scene and turning left onto Highway 73 from Stevenson Road, heading south toward Highway 30.
Deputies believe the maroon car had two male subjects inside, and the silver car had an unknown number of occupants.
During the investigation, detectives developed a suspect, 18-year-old Richard Gauthier of Donaldsonville. An arrest warrant has been issued on Gauthier for first degree murder.
Additional arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues and several other persons of interest have been identified. However, those names have not been released.
A warning was issued that if you come across Gauthier or the vehicles involved, please do not approach and contact the Sheriff's Office immediately.
