BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - One of the bills to create a proposed breakaway school district in Baton Rouge was withdrawn Wednesday.
Sen. Bodi White, R-Baton Rouge, says the bill to create a constitutional amendment to allow for a statewide vote on the district did not have the necessary two-thirds support it needed to pass.
The second bill that actually created the school district, did pass, but with the amendment bill being withdrawn, the new school district will have to wait at least another year.
But Sen. White says he hasn't given up the fight. "We need to ask ourselves in Baton Rouge, do we provide equal opportunity for education for all children?" White asked. "I don't think so and I wouldn't be here if we did."
