PUMPKIN CENTER, LA (WAFB) - Three men from Florida were arrested by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office in Pumpkin Center, LA after being caught stealing fuel for 18-wheelers.
Deputies were called to Chuck's Quick Way around 3:30 a.m. They saw two 18-wheelers parked in fuel bays, one of which was getting fuel. Three men were seen running fuel lines into both tanks on the truck.
During the investigation, deputies found out the same three men were caught on surveillance video stealing fuel on numerous occasions.
Deputies say 42-yyear-old Pedro Perez of Miami, FL, 41-year-old Carlos Gonzales of Miami, FL, and 46-year-old Eliobel Jorge of Haileah, FL have stolen more than 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel from Chuck's Quick Way over the past three months.
According to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, on June 5, 2013, it was proven that the three man stole about $5,000 worth of diesel fuel before being detained.
Detective Mike Moore was able to recover several electronic devices from the trucks that were used to interfere with the owners computer system allowing them to steal the fuel.
The men were taken into custody and charged with two counts of motor vehicle fuel theft each.
TPSO says similar cases of this type of fuel theft are believed to have occurred from Texas to Florida.
