Deputies searching for 4 in Walmart 'smash and grab'

PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) -

The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a smash and grab theft of numerous cell phones at the Port Allen Wal-Mart on Hwy. 1 South, in Port Allen, La.

According to deputies, on Monday, May 27th, 2013 shortly after 2:30 a.m.,. three unidentified black males entered the store. Surveillance video shows the suspects take a bag and a boat anchor from the fishing section of the store.

Reports say two of the suspects went to the electronic section where the cell phones were secured in a glass case. The suspects were seen on surveillance video casing the electronics section near the cell phones.

One of the suspects reached into the bag they took from the fishing section and grabbed the boat anchor. One of the suspects were seen on surveillance beating on the glass with the anchor, shattering it. The second suspect was seen grabbing the bag and shoveling numerous cell phones into it. He then ran out of the rear of the store.

The suspects were seen on surveillance speeding away in what appears to be a maroon colored Chevrolet Impala, possibly a 2005 or 2006.

The third suspect was seen on surveillance heading in the direction of the getaway vehicle at the time it was leaving the scene.

Surveillance video indicates a fourth person was involved as a getaway driver.

Detectives are asking for assistance from the public for information leading to the identification and arrest of person(s) responsible.
