HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Deputies were called to a home in Hammond Monday morning for a welfare check when they found a 5-month-old baby crying and what they're calling a possible murder-suicide.

When deputies arrived just before noon at the house in the 47000 block of Brittani Court, deputies say nothing was out of place, but no one would answer the door. They could hear a baby inside.

Deputies were able to get inside the house through an unlocked door. They found the 5-month-old child unattended in a seat in the front room.

Deputies called out several times but no one answered.

During a search of the home, they found a white female and a white male in a rear bedroom. Deputies say it appears to be a murder-suicide by gunshot.

According to TPSO, the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab has been contacted to process the scene for evidence and to see what happened.

Reports show that Brandon Colona, 26, shot and killed his girlfriend Theresa Doby, 22, with a .40 caliber handgun before turning it on himself. They both lived at the home.

Deputies say the motive behind the murder-suicide is unclear at this time.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office says the 5-month-old child is safe and in good health and has been placed with family members.
