(KSHB/CNN) - A Missouri man hit a homerun before the game even started in Kansas City.

Travis Spire-Sweet proposed to his girlfriend while they were throwing out the first pitch at the Royals game Tuesday.

Taesha Benson donated one of her kidneys to Spire-Sweet, her boyfriend of 10 months, just before Valentine's Day.

Right after the couple threw out the first pitch, he surprised her by dropping down on one knee.

"I thought it was a good time to thank the person who saved my life, and hopefully have the rest of my life to thank her for what she did.  And she said, yes," said Spire-Sweet.

He was born with only 25 percent of a functioning kidney.

He decided to propose to her at the game because one of their first dates was at a Royals game.
