Contact 9 follow up: Jindal responds to Density Utilities situation

PLATTENVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal responded to the Contact 9 report WAFB brought you Thursday on a utility company that filed for bankruptcy and stiffed homeowners in Assumption Parish.

Residents say they've spent the last several months mopping and repairing their homes after raw sewage kept backing up in their toilets and bathrooms.

They blame Density Utilities, the company that until recently services their neighborhood lift stations.

Density went under in March. The parish has been pressing the state to step in.

Friday, Governor Jindal told 9News his Executive Council has discussed with parish leaders grant money that is readily available to provide relief.

"They talked with the folks who are involved with the bankruptcy and they absolutely guaranteed that a bigger pump is on the way. It is my understanding but again I don't want to get ahead of the bankruptcy court but this company is in the process of being sold and could be sold to a larger company that has the resources to maintain their assets properly," said Jindal.

Assumption Parish President Marty Triche confirmed that the Governor's office contacted him Friday.

Triche adds he is taking the proper steps to secure the funding necessary to temporarily repair the infrastructure.
