WALKER, LA (WAFB) -

Former Livingston Parish President Mike Grimmer is facing a misdemeanor charge of domestic abuse battery, after an altercation with his wife.

Walker Police say Grimmer's wife called them around midnight Thursday, asking for help.

Police say when they arrived, Grimmer told them he "understood they were just doing their job."

Grimmer was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center. He has since been released on a $500 bond.

Grimmer served as Livingston Parish President from 2003 until 2011, when he lost in a runoff election to current Parish President Layton Ricks.
