AMITE, LA (WAFB) - The man convicted of killing a former broadcaster and police juror will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Eric Maurer, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder in the 2010 death of Rube Rogers, 65, of Ponchatoula.
According to investigators, the murder happened during a robbery at Rogers' home on Aug. 13, 2010.
Maurer's father, Rickey Maurer, was also charged in connection with the death.
Rogers worked for ActionNews17 and was a member of the Tangipahoa Parish Police Jury.
Friends and family of the victim said Rogers raised the younger Maurer since his teenage years and was like a stepfather to him.
