Neighbors hold teen car burglar until police arrive

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

A Gonzales, LA teen was arrested just after midnight Monday after neighbors intervened and held the teen until police arrived.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office says neighbors saw the 16-year-old trespassing on properties on Essen Terrace Drive in Gonzales and trying to burglarize a number of vehicles. They came together and held the teen until deputies arrived.

Deputies searched the teen and found a stolen iPod in his pants. The iPod had been stolen from a nearby vehicle.

The teen's name was not released because he is a juvenile. He was arrested and charged with one count of simple vehicle burglary, three counts of attempted simple burglary of a vehicle, three counts of criminal trespassing and illegal possession of stolen things.

The juvenile was arrested and then booked into the St. James Youth Detention Center pending a court hearing.
