After an exciting 5-4, 11 inning win against Vanderbilt to win the SEC Tournament championship, the Tigers now turn their attention to the NCAA Regionals.
LSU, the number four national seed, will play host to UL-Lafayette, Jackson State and Sam Houston State. LSU will play Jackson State at 2:00 p.m. Friday and UL-Lafayette will face Sam Houston State at 7:00 p.m.
The LSU regional is paired with the Virginia Tech regional which includes Oklahoma, Coastal Carolina and Connecticut.
LSU head coach Paul Mainieri addressed a huge media gathering after the pairings were announced.
"I have the utmost respect for Louisiana-Lafayette," Mainieri said. "Watching them take batting practice, I was in awe. They must have lost 100 balls."
UL-L comes to Baton Rouge with a 41-18 overall record. The Ragin' Cajuns loss to Florida Atlantic 16-8 in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game after giving up nine runs in the second inning. The loss ended a seven game win streak for UL-L. The team finished the year with a 19-11 conference record. UL-L RPI: 23
After winning a second straight regular-season Southland Conference championship, the Bearkats of Sam Houston State fell short in the conference tournament losing to Lamar 3-1 and finished the season with a 37-20 record. Sam Houston State RPI: 48
The Jackson StateTigers won their 15th SWAC championship by beating the Prairie View A&M Panthers 6-2. Jackson State finished the season with a 34-20 record. Jackson State RPI: 252
Tickets for the regional are available now to LSU baseball season ticket holders.
Regional tickets will remain on sale to season ticket holders until 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Regional ticket booklets, good for all seven games, are $100 (suites and Champion's Club), $75 (gold field box, gold grandstand and grandstand) and $50 (bleachers and standing room only).
Season ticket holders who have already submitted their requests in advance will have their credit card automatically charged for their tickets. Fans who selected the mail option will have their tickets shipped on Tuesday. Fans who selected the will-call option may pick up their tickets between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. this week at the LSU Ticket Office.
Regional tickets not purchased by season ticket holders by 5 p.m. Tuesday will go on sale to the general public at 8 a.m. Thursday. A limited number of bleacher seats and standing-room only booklets will also go on sale Thursday. There will be a limit of four tickets per account.
Individual-session tickets, if available, will go on sale at 8 a.m. Friday.
The SEC has four schools hosting an NCAA regional. Along with (4) LSU, (2) Vanderbilt, (10) Mississippi State and (13) South Carolina were all awarded a regional site.
