Troopers search for vehicle involved in deadly hit and run

ROBERT, LA (WAFB) - Investigators are looking for the vehicle involved in a deadly hit and run crash Sunday evening.

The victim was identified as Chaz Brumfield, 33, of Robert. Louisiana State Police said the vehicle that initially hit him was possibly a Toyota truck or SUV.

According to troopers, Brumfield was headed south on LA 445 in Robert on a moped around 8:30 p.m. They said he was driving slowly with no headlights or taillights when the scooter was hit from behind, throwing Brumfield into the middle of the roadway.

Authorities reported Brumfield was then run over by an 18-wheeler and a car. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

Troopers added they believe he was impaired at the time of the crash. A sample of his blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Investigators said the vehicle that hit him may have damage to its left front fender and headlight assembly.
