NEW ORLEANS, LA (WWL) - Police have identified a suspect in the murder of Joseph Massenburg, an 18-year-old AmeriCorps volunteer from Chicago, killed in Carrollton.

New Orleans police have obtained an arrest warrant for Glen Emerson, 18, who will be charged with second-degree murder once he is apprehended, said police. Massenburg was gunned down on April 1 in the 1500 block of Eagle Street.

"Massenburg had been talking on his mobile phone prior to walking outside of his residence, when witnesses stated moments later Emerson drove up in a white Lexus SUV," New Orleans police said in a statement. "The passengers inside of the vehicle opened fire on Massenburg striking him several times. Emerson then drove off with the gunman still inside of the vehicle." Massenburg was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

"Detective Robert Barrere was able to develop Emerson as the driver of the SUV through witness involvement," New Orleans police said.

Police are asking for assistance in locating the white Lexus SUV Emerson and his accomplices used in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
