BARDSTOWN, KY (WAVE) - A Bardstown police officer was found shot and killed on the Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County early Saturday morning, according to Kentucky State Police.

Investigators said just before 3 a.m. Saturday, a call came into the Kentucky State Police post in Elizabethtown about a fatal crash involving a Bardstown Police officer on the exit 34 ramp of the Bluegrass Parkway.

Trooper Mike Garyantes arrived on the scene at approximately 3:16 a.m. and discovered it was not a crash and that the officer involved had been shot and killed.

The Bardstown officer was in uniform inside his cruiser and on his way home from work, according to KSP. There was no immediate word about a possible suspect.
