Tigers rally over Bama to advance in SEC Tourney

Friday afternoon's elimination game was a bit of déjà vu with No. 2 LSU (50-9) and Alabama (34-26) colliding once again. Even more so when the Tigers won 3-2 to knock the Tide out of the SEC Tournament.

The Tigers got the early 1-0 lead with an RBI triple by Tyler Moore in the top of the third. LSU loaded the bases the next inning but could not capitalize.

However, the Tide turned in the bottom of the 5th when Bama gained a 2-1 lead with two runs off of starter Ryan Eades.

LSU's finally rallied in the 9th. With the Tigers down to their final strike, Tyler Moore laced a double to the gap scoring Jared Foster to tie the game at 2-2. Tyler Ross smacked the game-winning single on the next at bat to put the Tigers ahead 3-2.

Chris Cotton shut the Tide down in order to end Bama's SEC Championship hopes.

This was LSU's 50th win of the season making this the first Tiger team to post 50 wins in less than 60 games. The 2013 team also joins the 1986 team as being the only clubs in school history to record 50 victories before NCAA Tournament play.

"What a tremendous ball game," LSU coach Paul Mainieri said after Friday's win. "Tyler Moore stepped up and came through for us. It was a great environment for college baseball, and I'm sure our players had a great time playing the game today.

"(LSU starter) Ryan Eades kept us in the game and gave us a chance. It was frustrating at times that we weren't scoring because I thought we had some good at-bats. The big ball park and the wind blowing in were definitely factors today. Our kids were excited to play today, and I'm glad things turned out the way they did. It was an emotional boost for our team, and the win will give us confidence going forward."

They take on No. 12 Arkansas (37-19) Saturday at noon. The semifinal game will air on both Cox Sports Television and on ESPNews.

Arkansas advanced to the semifinal round with a 4-1 win over LSU on Thursday.

Freshman Hunter Newman will start Saturday's game on the mound for the Tigers, while the Razorbacks will counter with senior Randall Fant.
