CLINTON, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators have arrested a suspect in a murder that happened on Friday afternoon in a small community near Clinton.

East Feliciana Sheriff's detectives said Eric Martin, 26, has been arrested for attempted second degree murder in connection with the incident.

Detectives said one person is dead and another was taken to the hospital via AirMed.

The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. at a home on Highway 10, near Smith Road, just east of Clinton, LA.

Crime scene tape and detectives surrounded a family home near Clinton. East Feliciana Sheriff's deputies focused on the two cars parked out front.

Detective Don Mackey said four people were involved in a shooting that happened there. He believes it was the end of an ongoing feud between two guys.

"We're getting information that an argument had occurred last night at some point and it's a continuation from that," Mackey said.

Mackey said two people in a white-colored car followed two others who were traveling in a silver-colored car.

9News has learned one of the men in the silver car lives at the house.

Detectives said when one of the men stepped out of the car, shots were fired. One man in the white car was killed. One man in the silver car was taken to the hospital.

Investigators believe the person who fired from the white car was carrying a SKS rifle but they still haven't determined who fired first.

The other man in the silver car was taken into custody for questioning.

"It's very seldom that something happens in this area. It's real quiet," Mackey said.

Detectives are convinced relatives and neighbors saw or heard something.

State police are assisting in the investigation.

Martin was previously arrested in connection with a deadly shooting outside a St. Francisville nightclub in late 2009.

Anyone with information regarding Friday's shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867. Callers will remain anonymous.
