LSU falls into the losers' bracket after 4-1 loss to Arkansas

It was the premiere match-up of the tournament on Thursday afternoon as LSU's undefeated Aaron Nola and Arkansas stud Ryne Stanek duked it out on the mound, but in the end Arkansas out hit LSU 4-1.

LSU (49-9) scored the first run of the game in the 3rd inning with a fielder's choice and a Razorback miscue at second base.

Stanek was in a two out jam after walking the bases loaded, but a deep fly to center by Sean McMullen ended the threat.

Razorbacks finally got on the board in the 5th to tie it up, 1-1.

LSU and Arkansas remained deadlocked  until the 8th when the Hogs took the lead for good on a squeeze play. The Hogs tacked on two insurance runs in the 9th to beat the Tigers 4-1.

Nola pitched 7 strong innings, striking out 8.

"I thought Aaron pitched his heart out," Mainieri said. "He was fantastic. When you give a guy a week's rest, you're concerned about fastball command in the first game back. I thought his command was just slightly off tonight – it took a few more pitches than normal for him to get guys out."

Stanek went 8 innings giving up just 6 hits 1 unearned run, while striking out four Tigers.

"Stanek was very good tonight, and he showed why he's going to make a lot of money in this game at the next level," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "We had some opportunities against him, but we couldn't come up with the big hit at the right time. We just didn't take care of the scoring chances that we had."

LSU moves into the losers' bracket and has a rematch with Alabama Friday at 3pm.
