BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge lawyer, James M. Bernhard III, was sentenced to 27 months in prison Thursday for wire fraud in connection with the theft of more than $453,000 from his former law firm's trust account.
Bernhard pleaded guilty to the wire fraud charge and surrendered his law license shortly before he appeared for sentencing Thursday in Baton Rouge federal court.
Bernhard was also ordered to pay a fine of $10,000.
Documents reveal that Bernhard obtained $453,123 from his fraudulent scheme. He would transfer funds from a Fidelity Bank to an account at Iberia bank.
