Fort Campbell homecoming holds special reunions

FORT CAMPBELL, KY (WSMV) -

Following a Fort Campbell homecoming Tuesday night, yet another 100 soldiers arrived on post from Afghanistan Wednesday morning.

In the crowd outside, children stood on the railing reaching out to get closer to the plane that landed moments earlier.

Among the crowd was Heather Salete, son Jeremiah and an inseparable companion who loves a good neck rub.

"This is Sookie, my service dog," said Heather Salete. "I'm a retiring veteran after 23 years in the Army. She's for mobility purposes. My husband, Sgt. Major Satele, missed a whole year of my son's senior year of high school, all his football. That's been the toughest part for us."

As the troops walked into the hangar, Sookie, so calm all day, suddenly realized who just came home.

"I think she, as soon as she figured out a scent, I think she got really excited," said Major Satele, speaking after the dog had jumped up and licked his face for several minutes. "She remembered this old man here."

Also in the crowd was 3-year-old Cecilia, waiting to be reunited with both mom, Staff Sgt. Marleny Castrojon, and dad, Sgt. 1st Class Nicholas Beauchamp.

"I cannot compare the happiness right now,"said Castrojon. "Seeing her so big, it's complete happiness right now."

"My wife's sister took care of Cecilia while we were gone," added Beauchamp. "We owe a lot to her for keeping her happy and keeping her healthy."

"I'm so glad and happy for all the soldiers," added Major Satele. "We're able to have everyone home, and I pray to God for everything protecting our soldiers and bringing everyone home."
