MARICOPA, AZ (CBS5) -

Two men were in police custody after they were caught trying to flee a car containing more than 300 pounds of marijuana Wednesday morning.

The suspects were in a car that led Ak-Chin police on a chase from the Ak-Chin Indian reservation into the city of Maricopa about 5:30 a.m., said Ricardo Alvarado of the Maricopa Police Department.

The suspects bailed from the car in Maricopa and one man was subdued with a stun gun while the other ran into a nearby junk yard. Officers and a police dog located the second suspect in a shed in the junk yard, Alvarado said.

Both men were taken to Maricopa Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Alvarado said in addition to the 14 bales of marijuana, officers also found a reported stolen handgun.

He said police were trying to locate two joggers nearly struck by the car on Edison Road near Ancon Avenue. Alvarado asked the joggers to call police at 520-568-3673. The suspects could face additional charges after police speak with the joggers, Alvarado said.

No citizens or officers were injured, Alvarado said.

The suspects were not carrying identification and wouldn't talk with police, Alvarado said.

They face possible charges of transportation of marijuana, unlawful flight from a police officer, and possession of stolen property.
