PERDIDO KEY, FL (WAFB) - Authorities in Florida are investigating the death of an 8-year-old Louisiana boy.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office reported on its Facebook page the body of Owen Black was found around 1 p.m. Sunday.

Sheriff David Morgan said it is believed he drowned, but an investigation is ongoing.

"There are no indications of foul play; however the standard investigative and medical examiners protocols will apply," Morgan stated.

Black's mother said her son, who was autistic, was playing on the beach when he wandered off.

Hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officials combed the ocean and beaches near Perdido Key for the boy.

The sheriff said someone in Perdido Key saw the boy's body washing toward the shore and reported it.

"We ask for the community and nation's prayers for this family in mourning and our thanks are again extended to all law enforcement, military, state and federal agencies as well as the hundreds of volunteers who responded to Owen's call," the sheriff added.
