CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Beginning today and running through June 2nd, law enforcement agencies nationwide will be on the lookout for drivers and passengers not wearing a safety belt.

The nationwide ‘Click It or Ticket' campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers of driving or riding in a moving vehicle without a seat belt.

According to the CDC your chances of surviving a car accident improve by more than 50% when wearing a safety restraint, while your chances of surviving a roll-over accident improve by over 75%.

In Ohio, seat belt violations remain a "secondary offense," meaning you will not be pulled over for not wearing a seat belt, HOWEVER if you are pulled over for another violation and you or your passengers are not wearing a safety belt, citations will be issued.
