BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Firefighters rescued the driver of a car after the vehicle landed in a canal off Essen Lane Thursday afternoon.

St. George Fire Spokesman Eldon Ledoux says the driver of the vehicle was northbound on Essen when the vehicle left the roadway between Margaret Anne and One Calais.  "The vehicle went down the embankment into the creek-bed of Ward's Creek," Ledoux said.   "The vehicle was not submerged, but the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle."

Ledoux said the St. George Fire Department rescued the driver from the vehicle and transported the driver to an ambulance waiting on Essen Lane.   The driver, who was not identified, was transported to a hospital.
