Gun bills put on hold for budget discussions

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Louisiana budget is expected to be discussed in the Senate Thursday, which means other controversial bills are on hold.

Several gun bills that moved through House and Senate committees were scheduled to be debated on the Senate floor Thursday morning.

That includes a bill by Rep. Jeff Thompson, R-Bossier City, which would make it a crime to release the name of concealed gun permit holders.

The other bill prohibits federal restrictions on the possession and ownership of semi-automatic guns. Both bills were returned to the calendar.

Thompson said the gun bills should be debated on the Senate floor next Tuesday.
