Southern powers past Alabama A&M

Fort Worth, TX (WAFB) -

Southern erased an early 1-0 deficit against Alabama A&M scoring two runs in the fifth before exploding for five in the sixth.

Jesse Holliday went the distance for the Jaguars giving up one run on four hits and eight strikeouts. Holliday escaped a bases loaded seventh inning to earn the victory.

With two outs in the fifth inning Kevin Williams tripled in Jeremy Lopez and Tyler Kirksey giving the Jaguars their first lead of the game at 2-1.

In the sixth inning Jose DeLa Torre added a three run home run scoring Gavin Webster and Stephen Wallace giving Southern a 5-1 lead.

Williams struck again with a two out single up the middle scoring Lopez and Marcus Tomlin giving the Jags a 7-1 lead.

Williams finished the game with two hits and four RBI and DeLa Torre added three RBI for the Jaguars.

Next up for Southern will be Alabama State Thursday at 9:00 p.m.
