Elmore Co. man sentenced to 30 years in prison for making child porn

ELMORE CO., AL (WSFA) -

An Elmore County man who raped two boys and used his cell phone to take pictures of the crimes has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for producing child pornography.

According to the U.S. Attorney's office, between 2007 and 2012, 25-year-old Joshua Ray Parton raped two boys, a 12-year-old and a 9-year-old on multiple occasions. Parton used his cell phone camera to capture images of his molestation of the children.

Parton pleaded guilty back in December 2012.

Statements made by the families of the victims reflect the severe and long-lasting suffering that the children have been through and continue to cope with. In handing down the 30-year prison sentence, Judge Myron Thompson noted the immeasurable trauma that Parton's actions had wreaked in the lives of his child victims and their families.

Parton was originally arrested in Elmore County back in March of 2012 and charged with the sexual abuse of a child. Court documents show the case was waived to a grand jury.

Investigators at the time said the abuse started on or around Shields Road in the Lightwood Community. Parton was familiar with one of the victims' families. Allegations against Parton came to light when one boy's father noticed a change in his son's behavior.

Parton previously worked as a computer technician for a company at Gunter Air Force Base.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
