15 car theft incidents reported in same area in 1 month

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo police are warning the public to be extra vigilant after a series of car part thefts from more than a dozen vehicles in the past month.

Since April, there have been 15 incidents of vehicles having their wheels removed between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Most incidents have occurred in an area bounded by Alexis Road to Central Avenue and Douglas Road to Detroit Avenue. The target vehicles are put up on blocks, often in their own driveways.

The Toledo police suggest reporting any suspicious activity immediately.

"To jack up a vehicle and then put blocks under it and steal all the wheels and tires, it's going to take a little bit of time, it's going to make a little bit of noise. So, we're asking people just to be a little extra vigilant, and be aware. Be aware that it's happening out there," said Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.

Anyone with more information on the thefts can call CrimeStoppers at 419-255-1111.
