PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (CBS5) -

A Chino Valley woman missing since Saturday went on an impromptu camping trip and called police Monday morning to let them know she was safe, according to a Prescott Valley Police Department spokesman.

Emily Moon, 38, left a home at 1 p.m. to purchase cigarettes, leaving personal items behind, including medication and her purse, and leading residents to believe she would be returning soon, said Prescott Valley police Sgt. Brandon Bonney.

Bonney said Moon ran into some friends at a gas station and decided to go camping with them. She learned while camping that there was a search on for her and called police from the campsite to let them know she was OK.

Bonney said officers went to the campsite and verified it was her and that she was safe.

Moon recently spent time in Flagstaff and lives in the Chino Valley area and was also known to hitchhike, police said.
