Lightning causes building fire

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Fire Department said the Louisiana Association of Realtors building caught fire due to a lightning strike early Friday morning.

The building is located on Bennington Avenue near College Drive. The fire sparked around 5:30 a.m. Investigators said the fire caused about $1.3 million in damage. It is considered a total loss.

BRFD reported the west side of the building was totally engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene at 5:35 a.m.

Officials said the intense fire caused the roof on that side to collapse a short time later.

The entire building sustained heavy smoke and water damage.

No injuries were reported.
