Murder suspect turns himself in to police

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police said a man has turned himself in to them in connection with a shooting that left a man dead in a vehicle on April 20.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Areluas Myers, 22, of Baton Rouge surrendered Wednesday morning. He is suspected in the shooting death of Daniel Shaffer, 40, of Zachary.

Detectives said a Crime Stoppers tip and information from the community helped them to develop Myers as a suspect.

Investigators said Shaffer was shot while sitting in a car in the 5200 block of Packard Street, which is off Plank Road south of Hooper Road, around 10:45 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Myers will be booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.
