RAMAH, LA (WAFB) - There were huge backups on I-10 East between Lafayette and Baton Rouge for about four hours due to multiple crashes Wednesday morning.
At least one person was injured, but the extent of those injuries is unknown.
Louisiana State Police said three separate crashes happened on I-10 East near Ramah Wednesday morning. At one point, traffic was at a standstill for six miles.
Two of the wrecks were on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, right before the end of it. The other accident was past the bridge. One person in that crash was airlifted to the hospital.
The two crashes on the bridge reduced traffic to one lane in different spots. One of those was cleared around 10 a.m.
Troopers said one of the wrecks involved two 18-wheelers. The lane blockage from that one cleared about an hour later. Traffic was able to flow normally again just before 11:30 a.m.
An investigation into the crashes is ongoing.
