NEW IBERIA, LA (AP) -

Four people have been charged with gun and drug crimes after authorities say a 3-year-old child was found dead in New Iberia.

The Advertiser says sheriff's deputies found the toddler at a home Friday around 6:30 a.m when they responded to a call about an unresponsive child.

Deputies allegedly found illegal drugs, including marijuana, illegally possessed prescription medication and a sawed-off shotgun.

Officials said four adults were in the residence along with two other children under the age of 6.

The four adults were charged with possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, among other charges.

Deputies said they don't know what caused the death of the child. The investigation is continuing.
