BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The debate about Gov. Bobby Jindal's proposed $25 billion budget, which uses close to $500 million in one-time money, continued at the Louisiana Capitol Thursday.

Just days after HB 1 made its way through the House Committee on Appropriations, the House speaker made a plea to his colleagues to do their due diligence.

Speaker of the House Chuck Kleckley, R-Lake Charles, used his privilege Thursday morning to address his fellow representatives, saying he is very encouraged about the progress made on the budget up to this point in the session, but is urging them to make informed decisions moving forward.

"Let's sit tight and not commit to anybody that you will not support the plan when we don't even know what the plan is," he said. "Let's give the plan a chance to look at, a chance for everyone to look at before you make a decision."

Kleckley's speech drew an ovation from his fellow lawmakers. He added he hopes significant progress will be made on the budget as early as Monday of next week.
