The Florida Gators visit Alex Box Stadium Thursday to take on the LSU Tigers in an important three game SEC series.
Florida (25-20, 12-9 SEC) has won seven of its last nine SEC games including a sweep of South Carolina and series wins against Missouri and Tennessee.
As a team the Gators bat .271 and have 23 home runs for the year along with 23 doubles.
Sophomore outfielder Justin Shafer is hitting is .315 with four home runs and 21 RBI for Florida. Shafer also has a team leading 17 doubles. Vickash Ramjit is hitting is .311 with three home runs and 23 RBI.
The pitching staff has an ERA of 3.68 and opponents are hitting .253 against the pitchers.
Junior pitcher Jonathan Crawford leads the staff in innings pitched with 64.1. He is 3-5 with a 4.06 ERA. Johnny Magliozzi has a 4-1 record and 2.01 ERA. Magliozzi has all 11 saves for Florida. Daniel Gibson has a 2.10 ERA along with his 2-0 record.
LSU (40-6, 16-5 SEC) enters the Thursday's contest four days after losing its first SEC series to South Carolina.
Cody Glenn (5-1, 3.13 ERA) will start Thursday for LSU, with Aaron Nola taking the mound Friday and Ryan Eades starting Saturday.
"Our players have done a tremendous job in putting us in the position we're in now, and they're extremely excited about this series," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "Florida is a program that has enjoyed a great deal of success recently and they have a lot of tradition, and I like to think we've established a pretty strong tradition around here ourselves. Florida has great ball players, and so does LSU, and this shapes up as a highly competitive matchup."
LSU leads the overall series with Florida 53-39-1, but the Gators have won eight of the last regular season games.
