BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A new used car dealership is replacing A1 Autoplex on Florida Blvd. It comes after sources tell the I-team A1's owner, Damien Bowling, was evicted on Wednesday for failing to pay rent for the past several months.
Several vehicles on the lot were towed. Ultimate Autoplex will now replace what used to be A1 Autoplex.
On Monday, Bowling was moved from the Livingston Parish Prison to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. In addition to his two existing theft charges, EBR added to more theft charges.
-Felony theft of $5,050
-Theft of motor vehicle (2003 GMC Yukon)
-Theft of motor vehicle (1995 Chevy Camaro)
-Theft of motor vehicle (2005 Saturn Relay)
Bowling also faces three previous charges for issuing worthless checks late last year in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Wednesday, April 24th, Livingston Police arrested Bowling as a fugitive from East Baton Rouge Parish. Bowling has been the subject of numerous I-Team investigations as well as a Crime Stoppers fugitive. He had been on the run for several days before Livingston Police picked him up. While at the Livingston Parish Prison, they charged him with one count of issuing a worthless check.
Two days later, April 26th the Louisiana Used Car Commission issued a cease and desist order for A1 Autoplex to stop selling vehicles. Bowling can contest his cease and desist order before the Used Car Commission on May 20th.
The I-Team's investigation revealed Bowling sold a woman a stolen vehicle, even though his license to sell cars was suspended. Late last year, Bowling went before the Used Car Commission for a number of charges involving the issuing of titles. The board issued a stiff penalty where Bowling was ordered to pay more than $20,000 in fines, and until he paid, his license was suspended. The Used Car Commission's Executive Director Derek Parnell said Bowling had not paid a penny, and was violating board policy by selling vehicles.
