Tigers beat McNeese St. for 40th win

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The third ranked LSU Tigers (40-6) jumped out to a 7-0 lead on McNeese St. and held on to win 7-3.

The Tigers cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the first on a Mason Katz RBI single. Katz finished the game 2-4 with 1 RBI.

The next run came on a solo homer off the bat of Christian Ibarra in the bottom of the second to give LSU the 2-0 lead. It was Ibarra's fifth home run of the season. Ibarra finished the game 3-4.

JaCoby Jones went 3-3 with a RBI single in LSU's four-run 6th inning. The Tigers added three more runs in the 6th including a RBI single to right from freshman sensation Alex Bergman that made it 7-0.

LSU freshman Hunter Newman picked up his first career win. Newman went three innings allowing just two hits.

The Tigers are back in action Thursday when they open up a three game set with No. 20 Florida. First pitch is set for 6:30pm at Alex Box Stadium.
