LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Award-winning country music star Martina McBride will perform the national anthem prior to the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby.

McBride will sing The Star-Spangled Banner on the cupola (presentation stand) in the Kentucky Derby Winner's Circle shortly after 5 p.m. EST on Saturday, May 4.

McBride joins an impressive roster of entertainers who have performed the national anthem on horse racing's biggest day since 2009 when Churchill Downs launched a new tradition. Singer-songwriter Mary J. Blige performed the anthem last year, following Jordin Sparks in 2011, Rascal Flatts in 2010 and LeAnn Rimes in 2009.

McBride is a four-time Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year. She has sold more than 18 million albums worldwide and has had five number #1 singles on the Billboard country music chart.

The 113th Army Band from Fort Knox will play The Star-Spangled Banner at Churchill Downs earlier on Derby Day. Formed on July 8, 1940, it is the second-oldest active duty Army band in the country.
