Parents of Texarkana murder victim speak

TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) -

A Texarkana, Arkansas mother and father cry for help after the shooting death of their 21-year-old son on April 18.

"Please somebody give them the information that they need," goes the pleading of Andrew and Lula Cheatham, parents of Andrew Cheatham III.

Police found Andrew Cheatham dead from a gunshot wound inside a blue Mercury Grand Marquis, gun in hand on that night in the 800 block of Pinehurst Street.

Police say Cheatham was involved in some type of altercation when gunfire erupted.

Even though the four suspects wanted in connection with Cheatham's murder are now behind bars, Cheatham's family still asks for people to come forward with information about their son's death.

"My son didn't deserved to die like this. He didn't deserve to die like this," Cheatham Jr. says. "Please, come forward and tell somebody. Please."

Texarkana Police have arrested Serandon and Frank Starling, Justin Benton and Aundrey Battle. The arrest affidavit, in which witnesses identify the shooter as Aundrey Battle, states three cars surrounded Cheatham's vehicle at the intersection of Walter and Couch streets.

When Cheatham tried to back away, Battle fire at least two shots, striking Cheatham in the head, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit also alleges that Serandon Starling tried to fire another weapon, but it malfunctioned.

"It just don't make any sense," Cheatham says.

The family says they appreciate the work police have done in the case as well as the support they've received from the community. They hope that this will be a wake-up call for other young people.

"This should put an eye open to all these youngsters to show them how stuff like this can happen for no reason," Cheatham says.

Funeral services for Cheatham is tentatively set for May 4.

Prosecutors have asked for a $1 million bond on each of the suspects.
