Padilla now heads Border Patrol's Tucson Sector

A 26-year veteran with the Border Patrol has been named head of its Tucson sector.

Manuel Padilla Jr. has served as the sector's acting chief since October and as deputy chief since November 2011.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, Padilla replaces Richard A. Barlow as sector chief.

Barlow is now a senior manager in the agency's Washington headquarters.

The Tucson Sector is responsible for 262 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border.

It runs from the Arizona-New Mexico line on the west to the eastern edge of Yuma County in southwestern Arizona on the west.
